Trip Report

Alpine Scramble - Wahpenayo Peak Traverse

Very beautiful and strenuous (~15 miles, ~5000' gain) one way loop traverse of Wahpenayo, Cliff Lake, Denman, and Plummer with return to Longmire by way of Reflection Lakes, Narada Falls, and the Wonderland Trail.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • All portions of the route were in great shape with water available at Cliff Lake, the tarns just west of Cliff Lake, Reflection Lakes, and the Paradise River. Skirted a ground bee hive between the tarns and Cliff Lake with leader getting a minor owie sting (not worth reporting to our inestimable and busy Safety Committee). Foot bridge crossing the Nisqually River at Cougar Rock was IN.

Very beautiful and strenuous (~15 miles, ~5000' gain) one way loop traverse of Wahpenayo, Cliff Lake, Denman, and Plummer with return to Longmire by way of Reflection Lakes, Narada Falls, and the Wonderland Trail. Our early start of 6AM allowed us to avoid traffic congestion, gain most of our elevation in cool temperatures, as well as immediate seating at the Copper Creek Inn for dinner. Total trip time was 10.3 hours. Photos can be seen here .
