Trip Report

Alpine Scramble - Tamanos Mountain

Good scramble for gaining confidence on rock.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

There is a small lot for the Owyhigh Lake trailhead. We took the only open spots at 7:30 on a Saturday. There was overflow parking shortly before the official parking area.

Despite the full parking, it was a quiet trail. We passed one person filtering water from a stream and saw a couple of people on the far side of the lakes. I imagine it is busier during wild flower season.

The hike to the scramble is straight forward.

This is a great scramble for folks that are gaining confidence on rock. There's a little bit of route finding and sustained scrambling across a series of false summits with minimal exposure and loose rock.

Total time was 6 hrs 20 minutes.
