Trip Report

Alpine Scramble - Tamanos Mountain

Pleasant, fun ridge scramble of a Rainier 100 peak and graduation of four Tacoma Scrambling students.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Due to Sunrise Corridor Timed Entry, we drove through the White River Entrance at 6:45am and there was no delay. Bugs are starting to be a problem.

Just a week prior, standing on top of Cowlitz Main Chimney gazing at the White River Valley below, I was inspired to lead a scramble of Tamanos Mountain to get as many Tacoma scrambling students graduated as possible. This has always been one of my favorites on the Rainier 100 list. It turned out to be a beautiful day. There were six Tacoma students total and four ended up graduating. They all told me the best part was the fun ridge scramble between the false and true summit. Congratulations Ada, Andrea, Ramila and Randall!
