Alpine Scramble - DeRoux Peak

A great trip with some unexpected winter weather.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

We had a good group with good skills and good attitudes. There was a moderate rain up to the Koppen-DeRoux pass. Not long after turning north there was snow mixed with rain and by the time we got above 5500' the precip was all snow. Everyone was cold but we kept a sustainable pace and made it to a blustery/wintery summit without incident.

For the route back we headed back the way we came then turned NE off the ridge at about 5600' on the Koppen Mtn Trail. The trail quickly faded so we simply followed the terrain down to the Boulder-DeRoux trail and took that all the way back to the cars.
