Upper Dungeness River

An easy hike of 6.8 miles and 600 feet of elevation gain along a gentle grade in the woods that turns around at Camp Handy, a meadow with a shelter.

From US 101 near Sequim Bay State Park, turn west onto Luella Road  and then left onto Palo Alto Road. In 6 miles, turn right onto Forest Road  2880 and then turn left onto Forest Road 2870 in 1.7 miles. In 9 miles, reach the large parking area just past the Dungeness River Bridge (2,500 ft).

From US 101 near Sequim Bay State Park, turn west onto Luella Road  and then left onto Palo Alto Road. In 6 miles, turn right onto Forest Road  2880 and then turn left onto Forest Road 2870. Hike south on the Dungeness Trail 3.5 miles with 400 feet of elevation gain to Camp Handy (3,100 ft). Extend your trip by continuing on up Dungeness River. It ends at Heather Basin, and added 8.4 round trip miles and 1,200 feet of elevation gain.

Hike north on the Dungeness Trail 6.5 miles to the Lower Dungeness trailhead (1,600 ft).
