Due to the strenuousness of the trip, likelihood of needing snowshoes, and short daylight, leader's permission is required. In your permission request, describe your recent conditioning, winter experience, and show shoeing experience.
This is a strenuous winter scramble of Mount Ararat by the standard route from the Kautz Creek trail.
Plan for a long day. We will stick together as a group and aim to move around 2 mph on snow-free trail. Expect the off-trail pace to be 1000 ft/hr, but slower if we use snowshoes. As with any winter trip, we will be subject to weather, road closures, and snow/avalanche conditions. This trip will still go if it is overcast or slightly rainy/snowy. However, if the weather or avalanche forecast indicate we won't have safe conditions, this trip will be cancelled.
Everyone is expected to contribute to route-finding and assessment of avalanche risk.
Our back options include Mount Wow or Tum Tum depending on snow conditions. I am considering Florence and Sweet Peak as well.
7:30am at the Kautz Creek Trailhead. National Park/ America the Beautiful Pass is required to park at this TH.
