Water released from upstream reservoirs means there is plenty of water in the Yakima River well into the summer, and this year is no exception: there is currently (Monday, July 17) 3,770 cfs at the USGS Umtanum gage, which is well above American Whitewater's minimum recommended flow of 1000 cfs. The current forecast is for a sunny day with a not-too-scorching high of 81. All-in-all it looks to be a great day to enjoy this near-to-Seattle desert river.
This is an exploratory trip. Trip reports indicate the possibility of some wood in the river near the start of the run. Reports also suggests the whitewater consists mostly of fun class II wave trains.
Meet at 9AM at the takeout at the North Thorp Highway bridge over the Yakima River.
If there is interest in extending the trip by 3 miles, we will move our meeting place to a downstream take-out at the WDFW site on SR-10 at Milepost 101.1, 3,000 ft upstream of a low-head dam.
A Discover Pass is required.
