Join us for one or more Black History Month, one-a-week night walks through Seattle's Central District to explore Redlining/, Seattle before 1900, Native Seattle, and Seattle as Labor Market. Our first walk will trace redlining along Madison St to Seattle University and return via Cherry St.

This first of four night walks will explore the Central District boundaries of Redlining, racial and religious segregation so common in American cities in the 20th century. Source documents will be a UW archival trove at https://depts.washington.edu/civilr/segregated.htm and the late Quintard Taylor's The Forging of a Black Community, 2nd Edition.

Meet shortly before 6pm outside the bathroom block at Washington Park Playfield. Toilets are available and good bus service along nearby Madison St. Free parking in off street lot adjacent to Playfield and Japanese Garden.
Required Equipment
Water, snacks, appropriate outerwear, and sturdy shoes.
