Urban Walk - Des Moines Creek Park & Trail

A fun exploratory walk.  We will stop and check out whatever might be interesting along the way.  We may see marine wildlife at the marina and along Puget Sound.  Sections of the unpaved Barnes Creek Trail may be muddy or slippery.  Wear shoes with good traction.  We will stop along Puget Sound  at Des Moines Beach Park for a longish lunch break.  Participants need to be able to maintain a 2 MPH uphill and 2.5 MPH downhill pace when moving.

Meet at Noon (12:00PM) at the north TH for the Des Moines Creek Trail at 2151 S. 200th St. Des Moines, WA

Getting There

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Take Exit 151 from I-5 and head west on S 200th Street. Cross International Blvd (referred to elsewhere as Hwy 99, or as Pacific Hwy S) and, about 0.4 mile farther west on S 200th St, turn left into the graveled lot. The official address is 2151 S 200th St, in Des Moines, but there are no signs visible from the street. (You can search online using this address for a map that will show the trail.)

Once you are in the lot you will see the large bulletin board that offers additional park information, and the wide trail itself will be clearly visible heading south. There is room for about a dozen cars to park here, and the trailhead gates are open daily from dawn until dusk. There is a porta-potty at the trailhead.
