This is a mentored walk for my Urban Walk Leader Badge.
This loop walks begins at the Eddie McAbee entrance to Carkeek Park (NW 100th Pl and 6th Ave NW). We begin walking west uphill through the neighborhood and making our way to the Mary Ave NW entrance to the park. Continue on the South Ridge Trail and Piper’s Creek Trail through the wetlands area to see the 7 beaver dams and possibly a beaver siting. From there head to the beach and spend a few moments enjoying the panoramic view of the Salish Sea and Olympic Mountains. Continuing on pass by the salmon imprint pond area, native plant display garden and then to the Piper homestead orchard before completing our loop walking upstream along Piper Creek to the Eddie McAbee entrance.
We will be walking a comfortable social pace (1.5-2.0 mph) and staying together. There is a restroom and a sani-can in the park along this route. The trail is generally in good condition but the wetlands trail can have water over it particularly after a rain. The start/end point is accessible by transit: D line, #40 or possibly #5
We will meet at the Eddie McAbee entrance (NW 100th Pl. and 6th Ave. NW) across from the back of QFC shopping plaza. There are a few parking spaces designated at the entrance and also street parking on NW 100th Pl. as well as good bus service. Plan to meet at 5:45pm and have a briefing then start out promptly at 6pm. Anticipate ending ~8:30pm. More details to follow in Hello Walker email.
