Sea Kayak - Lake Union: Sunnyside Ave Boat Ramp

Burn off calories from christmas and new year party and get a great start on the New Year! Starting later at 11:00AM and keeping the paddle short so that everyone can join after a staying up late for new year party.

We will paddle a loop around Lake Union and into Portage Bay. 

Not a high intensity paddle, though there is flexibility for those who want to condition to do additional short loops while staying close.

New Graduate Students welcome

Meet at Waterway 18 at 11:00 for 11:15 launch.  Off the water  by 3:15pm.

Waterway 18 is a small pocket park NE of gasworks and a short distance south of the Sunnyside boat ramp.  Park on the grave strip north of the road.

Dry suit, wet exit preparation necessary.

These eight essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle
  4. Spray skirt
  5. Bilge pump with floatation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
