Sea Kayak - Copalis Beach
Paddle an exposed shoreline on the central Washington coast. When traveling north on the Washington coast, Copalis Rock is the first natural rock formation since North Head at Cape Disappointment. Paddle to this seldom visited sea stack, and explore the outfall of the nearby Copalis river.

Kayakers with good boat handling skills but little or no coastal experience may be allowed to participate subject to the leaders approval. This trip will start with a "Beach Talk" and 1 to 1.5 hour coaching period covering and reminding participants of the basics of kayaking in the "soup" and launching & landing thru a surf zone. For paddlers with coastal experience this trip is an opportunity to hone your boat handling skills on an exposed surf beach. All participants must take an active part in insuring the safety of the entire group. Every participant must research and be aware of the expected sea conditions including swell height & interval, wind speed, wind waves and longshore currents. These all contribute to the high SK trip rating associated with every coastal paddle trip, and can change significantly in a short time span.
I expect this sea kayak trip to have this difficulty and these conditions.
- Difficulty:
- Wind: <15 kts
- Waves: <4'
- Route: along a coast, no crossings
- Distance: 8-10 nm
- Pace: 3 kts
We'll paddle from Roosevelt Beach to the Copalis River.
Meet at Roosevelt Beach Road access located off Highway #109 a little over 5 miles north of Copalis. Please have your boats loaded, gear on and be ready to for a beach talk at 10:00 AM.
Google indicates 1 hr 51 min/ 86.4 miles from my house to Roosevelt Beach Road. Your numbers will vary.
