Open Backpack - Mason Lake

This will be a one night backpacking trip to the Mason Lake Backcountry Camping area.  Being early May the weather can be unpredictable and if the weather is unfavorable or there is still too much snow at the lake this trip will pivot to a location in Eastern Washington.  Please be willing to be flexible.

After setting up camp I would like to take an optional trip up to Mount Defiance which would add 3 miles and 1500ft of elevation gain.  This will only happen if the snow conditions and visibility are favorable at the top.  Otherwise there are some nice lakes in the area to explore.  WTA describes part of this trail as "The trail emerges onto boulder fields, but with comfortable footing."

Leader permission is required.  Participants must have either a backpack skills badge or equivalent, or be currently enrolled in a backpacking course.  When requesting permission let me know how many backpacking trips you've done in the past year and if you want to do the side trip to Mount Defiance.

Meet up at the Ira Springs Trailhead at 10am ready to hike by 10:15.  Northwest Forest Pass required.
