Route & pace: This hike will be ~6-8 miles at about 1.5-2 mph. We'll likely see lots of interesting spring flowers that slow us down, so I plan to turn around at the 3 hour mark. The hike will likely last ~4-6 hours.
Plant & animal life: The plants highlights likely to be in bloom are hedgehog cactus, lupines, balsam roots, sagebrush violets, phlox, bluebells, buckwheat, lomatium, and locoweed. Birds we're likely to spot include meadowlarks, horned larks, mountain bluebirds, and various raptors and sparrows.
Site conditions: We'll be hiking along dirt roads with a few steep hills. Be prepared for windy and sunny conditions as this site is quite exposed. High winds are very common, especially after 1pm, so please pack warm and wind blocking clothing.
9:00 AM, at milepost 18.4 on the Vantage Highway (lot is on the north side of the road, Discover Pass required). https://goo.gl/maps/RDGb5ivtCE8JL1Bb6
