We will start with a hike to the top of Sugarloaf for a water break and then head down and around Whistle Lake with a stop for snacks/lunch along the edge of the lake. We will see some lovely large trees towards the end of our hike.
This time of year the trail can be muddy in spots and there are some slippery rocks on the trail that will require care and maybe some poles. We will stay together because there are lots of intersections/choices along this trail. You can download your own map here.
Our pace will be roughly 1.5 to 2 miles per hour with stops to appreciate all the moss, lichen, trees and fungi in this marvelous piece of land set aside by people with forethought.
This is a mixed use trail so we may see horses or bikes or even motorbikes as part of this.
Friendly dogs are welcome on a leash. Please let the leader know if you are bringing a dog.
Heavy rain or strong winds will cancel this trip. We will have an optional post hike stop in Anacortes Place TBD.
We will meet at the Ray Auld Trailhead at 8:45 ready to hike at 9 am. Carpooling is encouraged and you can easily create carpools at https://www.groupcarpool.com/t/aqpwvr
