Trip
Day Hike - Tumwater Historical Park
The salmon are returning to the Deschutes River to spawn. We'll walk from below Tumwater Falls up to the fish hatchery and back. We should see salmon jumping the rapids, and crowding through the fish ladders, and may see some hatchery operations. We'll do about 2 miles or so, at under 2 miles per hour, gaining some elevation alongside rapids and waterfalls.

If you are recovering from surgery, rehabbing an injury, trying to get back in shape, or doing some low intensity conditioning, or just want a day hike that doesn’t take all day, this may suit you. Leader is doing hikes at local parks of about 2 to 3 miles, averaging a little under 2 mph, and invites you to join him. We will start from Tumwater Historical Park, and walk up the Deschutes River alongside fish ladders, past Tumwater Falls to the fish hatchery at Tumwater Falls Park (Brewery Park), then down along the river, to our starting point, for two miles. If we want to add a little distance, we will walk to Capitol Lake and back. We'll try for a social pace, slow enough to talk but enough for some cardio conditioning. Hiking time one to two hours. We'll hike rain or shine. We will be on paved or gravel paths. Some stairs next to falls may be wet and slippery. That part is optional.
