The most common way to access Rampart Lakes is via Rachel Lake. We are not going that way. Instead, we will take the "Rocky Run" trail via Lake Laura and Lake Lillian. The precise turn around point for the day is not pre-determined. If the weather is nice and folks are up for it, we might hike all the way to Lila Lake, (north of Rachel Lake).
NOTE: The trail up to and around Lake Lillian is quite steep and requires good balance and the use of your hands in a few spots. It is not technically a "scramble", but it will challenge you. Trail running shoes are okay if you have poles.
Please read some of the WTA trip reports: https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/lake-laura-backdoor (but note that some of the trip reports are for hikes that went all the way to Alta Peak, which is further than we will go).
IMPORTANT NOTE:
In the event of a forecast for lousy weather on Tuesday, this trip might be postponed until Thursday of the same week OR changed to a Tiger / Squak / Cougar area hike OR maybe both of those.
I will notify everybody by email by Sunday evening if I decide to make that change. Email me your suggestions on Sunday if you want some input in the decision.
By signing up for this trip, you agree to this flexibility.
FYI: The cancelation deadline is Monday morning at 8 AM, so you have some time to decide.
DATE CHANGED: Was Tuesday 9/24, now Wednesday 9/25
The official meeting place is the East Sunset Trailhead parking lot in Issaquah at 8:00 AM. It is 100 yards south of I-90 at exit #18. The address is 665 E Sunset Way, Issaquah, WA. We can carpool from there to the trailhead.
If you are coming from the south-end up SR 18, please make a note of that in the carpool notes so you can arrange a carpool from the Maple Valley/Kent area AND/OR we can meet you in North Bend.
