Day Hike - Squaxin Park

Trip

Day Hike - Squaxin Park

An easy hike for families new(ish) to the Mountaineers or to hiking in general. We will spend time at the beginning discussing gear, the 10 Essentials, and Leave No Trace.

  • Easy
  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)
  • Mileage: 2.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 300 ft

We will meet at 10:00 a.m. by the Rose Garden shelter at Priest Point Park. Parking is available near the shelter, on the left as you drive in or just beyond the shelter. The park is free, no passes required.

Before we start hiking we will talk about hiking gear and safety, especially the 10 Essentials (including Family and Kid versions of the list) and the Leave No Trace ethic. We understand that not all families will have the 10 Essentials yet, so this will be a good time to discuss and learn. During our hike, the kids will get to help navigate the trail system, using provided maps. There will also be the opportunity for kids to explore the (muddy!) shore of the tidal inlet when we stop for a snack/lunch break. Bring rain gear and a lunch or snack.
