Day Hike - Oyster Dome-Samish Overlook Loop

A Tuesday hike to stretch the legs near Bellingham. The mid-week timing helps us avoid the crowds at a popular destination!

  • Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 5.75 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,050 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 2,025 ft

Meet at the trailhead at 9:30 AM with boots on trail by 9:45 AM. Please note that we will meet at the trailhead from the Samish Overlook parking area per DNR request. This requires a Discover Pass. I can take up to three passengers from the Starbucks off I-5 exit 232 (Cook Rd, Sedro Woolley) at 9 AM.

"The Department of Natural Resources requests that visitors access Oyster Dome from the Samish Overlook parking area, not from the unofficial access point on Chuckanut Drive.

From I-5, take exit 240 (Alger) and head west on Lake Samish Road. Take the first left onto Barrel Springs Road and travel 0.6 mile, to where there is a sign reading “Blanchard Forest Block”. Turn right on the dirt road and travel another 1.7 miles to a sign for “Samish Overlook”. Turn left and pass through the yellow gate (open one hour before sunrise to one hour past sunset) and continue 2.2 miles to the Samish Overlook Day Use Area."

We'll go at a moderate pace and finish in time so that you'll have the second half of the day for other activities!
