Day Hike - Olallie Lake

Olallie Lake is one of many beautiful lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness region and is easily accessible off I-90 west of Snoqualmie Pass. We will take the Pratt Lake Trail to Olallie Lake, which is a moderate to strenuous 8 mile out-and-back day hike with 2,300 feet of elevation gain. We will maintain a moderate 1.5 to 2 mph pace.

  • Mileage: 8.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,300 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 - 2 mph

Meet at the Pratt Lake trailhead off I-90 Exit 47, geared up and ready to hike at 8 a.m. Plan to arrive by 7:45 a.m., so we can start hiking at 8 a.m. There is one bathroom at the trailhead. The NW Forest Pass or Interagency America the Beautiful Pass is required (NOT the Discover Pass).

Directions: Take Exit 47 off of I-90, turn north and then west (left) onto Forest Road 9035, and continue 0.4 mile to the Pratt Lake Trailhead (elev. 1900').

Our hike starts at the Pratt Lake Trailhead (elev. 1900’) and follows the Pratt Lake Trail northwest to the Talapus Cutoff at the 3.2 mile mark (elev. 3700'). We will take the Talapus Cutoff for 0.2 miles to the Olallie Lake Trail junction, then hike another half mile to reach our destination and lunch spot on the west side of Olallie Lake (elev 3800'). After lunch, we will return to the trailhead by the same route.

This is a moderate/strenuous hike with a moderate pace, averaging 1.5 – 2 mph. If you have concerns about your ability to manage the distance, elevation gain, and pace, please contact the leader. If you want to hike faster than 2 mph, please do not sign up for this hike. We will not split the group, unless in the event of an emergency. We will have intermittent cell phone coverage on this route.

Bring your map and compass. At several key sites, we will practice finding true north and answering the 5 questions: Where are you? Where do you want to go? What route will you take to get there? How long will it take? What do you expect to see along the way? This will be a fun, but optional exercise.

Note: this is a mentored hike.
