From the Safeway Store parking lot we will caravan to the trailhead parking lot, involving heading east on SR 410 right at the top of a hill onto Mud Mountain Road, and left into the trailhead parking lot, where the road bends to the right, before reaching the closed gate into Mud Mountain Dam Park. No parking pass is required at the trailhead parking lot. There is no restroom facility at the trailhead. There is an outhouse a mile in on the trail, but no other restroom facility on the hike. We will be hiking nearly entirely under a forest canopy, presenting opportunities for bathroom breaks in the woods as needed.
A picture in a recent trip report shows the park bench at our lunch spot having been smashed by a blowdown, but that does not disrupt the nice view there. We return by the route we hiked in.
There could be muddy spots on the trail, so footwear should be appropriate for that situation.
The Mud Mountain Dam Park has been closed since the start of the pandemic, so we are meeting at the alternate trailhead, which has been expanded to accommodate a large number of cars.
Participants on this hike must have with them at all times a mask that can cover their nose and mouth and be put in place when we pass close to others on the trail. For everyone's safety, I request that carpooling be limited either to members of the same household or people who have received their full covid 19 vaccine and completed the followup waiting period. Extra cars could be left at the Enumclaw Ranger Station, which we will pass on the drive to the trailhead from the Safeway Store. We cannot leave cars at the Safeway.
Meet at 10:30 AM near the east entrance to the Enumclaw Safeway Store, 512 Roosevelt Ave E. (SR 410), Enumclaw, WA. 98022. Restrooms are available just inside the east entrance, to the left. If you arrive early, you can buy hot food to go at the deli inside the store. Cars cannot be left in the store parking lot during the hike.
