After a brief introduction, we will hit the trail at 8:45am and stay together as a group. Switchbacks and climbing begin almost as soon as we leave the trailhead. The trail ascends steadily, but gently, for its first mile and a half. Shortly thereafter, it flattens out as it winds through Snag Flat, a stand of old-growth trees that have survived both fire and logging. We will take a short break to appreciate the immense size and age of these trees. Beyond Snag Flat, the trail steepens, climbing more aggressively through younger forest. We will continue to the base of Mount Si Haystack, our turnaround spot.
We will take a few 5 min-breaks when needed for layers adjustment, hydration, snacks, party separation, or taking pictures. We will have a 20-min break at the base of Mount Si Haystack. Expect to be on the trail for 4.5-5.0 hours.
We will hike rain or shine, unless the weather is unfavorable.
Sunrise 6:12am, Sunset 8:00pm.
