Day Hike - May Valley Loop (Squak Mountain)

Observe winter solstice with visit to the 3 peaks of Squak Mountain. The name "Squak" comes from the Southern Lushootseed placename /sqʷásxʷ/. BEFORE REGISTERING PLS READ LEADERS NOTES

  • Moderate/Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 9.3 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,000 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 1,970 ft
  • Pace: 2mph (average moving pace)
  • Your Mountaineers activities in the last 2 months must show similar distance, elevation gain and pace.  Without these, you will be moved off the roster. This is for the safety of the group.  Hours of daylight are short, we will need to move along the trails confidently and safely in order to be back to our vehicles with a comfortable margin before losing daylight.
  • There are some steep, slippery sections of trail due to mud, leaves and, possibly, frost/snow. The little-used trail to the Southeast peak will likely be muddy, brushy and wet.  REQUIRED: bring microspikes & hiking poles
  • Hike will be canceled or rescheduled if there are hazardous trail, weather or road conditions, or heavy rainfall/snowfall.
  • Ready to hike 8:00am. May Valley Loop Trailhead 13201 Squak Mountain Rd SE · Issaquah
  • Weather - from Mountain-Forecast.com
  • Plan to hike in rain or snow, but not if any conditions are hazardous
  • Route - will be sent to participants in Hello Hiker message
