A challenging and varied hike with both a lovely forested trail to a great lake, set in a bowl; and a nice peak with open views. We will be crossing one avalanche slope and will access this for safety. Participants need to have ascended at least 3,000' on a previous hike (within the last four months) to join this trip. We will not being going fast, but rather have a relaxed pace. If you like going fast, this is likely not the trip for you. We will be staying together as a group. There is a crossing of a creek via some boulders that be tricky in the snow but is not unsafe. Microspikes and trekking poles are required equipment. Possible light snow at the top and light rain at the TH. Bring rain gear.
Meet at the Ira Spring TH at 8:30 AM. Northwest Forest Pass/America the Beautiful Pass Required. Note: There could be some minor snow on the access road to the trailhead.
GETTING THERE
From Seattle, drive east on I-90 to exit 45. Turn left and cross under the highway, then veer left onto FR-9030. About one mile from the exit, stay left at the fork onto Mason Lake Road, FR-9031. Park in the lot at the end of this road, 3.8 miles from the highway. There is a privy at the trailhead. The privy, however, may have been closed for the winter.
I will set up carpool options if folks are interested. Rob
