This trip involves a round-about approach to Lake Ingalls. Day 1: From the DeRoux trailhead we will take the trail up to the Ingalls trailhead, then climb up to Longs Pass. The descent from Longs Pass to Ingalls creek is rough and steep in places, slightly scrambly. We will then ford/cross Ingalls creek, which will involve water shoes. Across Ingalls Creek we will set up camp. From camp we will explore the Ingalls Creek basin, Stuart Pass and Lake Ingalls. About 10 miles and 3,400' of gain in total. Day 2: We will retrace our route, fording Ingalls Creek again, climbing to Longs Pass, then descending to the trailhead. About 5 miles and 1,500' of gain.
My goals for this trip are as follows:
1. Be safe.
2. Thoroughly explore the upper Ingalls creek basin including a visit to Lake Ingalls and Stuart Pass.
3. Learn something.
Expectations for trip participants are as follows:
1. Be ok with fording Ingalls Creek twice. I've done this before this time of year and it was relatively easy/not dangerous, but you will need sandals or other water shoes to avoid getting your boots soaked.
2. Be ok with lots of up and down both days. The descent from Longs Pass to Ingalls Creek (and the climb back up) is partly on rough trail and partly cross-country. This section of trail is a bit "scrambly" in places but nothing too serious. (Loose rock, roots, rocks, eroded trail).
3. Practice Leave No Trace principles.
4. Have the physical conditioning for this trip. There is lots of up and down both days, more so on the first day.
5. Be respectful of all participants.
Signup is by Leader Permission Requested. You should have a Backpacking badge on your profile. This is a more complex, advanced-level trip. If you do not have the badge, please provide me with some evidence as to your backpacking skills and suitability for this trip.
