Lake Valhalla

Trip

Day Hike - Lake Valhalla

We'll hike to a gorgeous alpine lake along the PCT, tucked under Lichtenberg Mountain and Mount McCausland just north of Steven Pass. Fall colors are still holding on. 7 miles and 1,500 ft elevation gain. Starting from the Smithbrook Trailhead.

Fall colors still abound in the Alpine Lakes region. Just before reaching Lake Valhalla, we will climb part way up Mt McCausland for better views, but just ~300. Then we will descend to Lake Valhalla and have lunch before returning.

There is rain in the forecast, so come prepared for wet conditions. And bring extra layers for cold conditions. The temperature forecast looks like it will be too warm for snow, but you may want to bring microspikes just in case.

My expectations are for us to make it safely to Lake Valhalla and back, enjoy the wilderness, be respectful to each other, and practice Leave No Trace principles.
