This is a 2 day hiking event. You MUST sign up for both hikes (Sept 14 - Eightmile Lake and Lake Caroline and Sept 15 - Stuart Lake) according to COVID guidelines which means finding overnight lodging near Leavenworth (see below).
This is a moderate 10 mile hike. From the trailhead, we will start out in the cool forest, entering the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, alongside Mountaineer Creek. Then climbing up a slope to the junction with Colchuck Lake trail, then leveling out through meadows to reach Lake Stuart at 5miles, 1665 ' elevation gain. Here we will stop for lunch and a swim and then hike back to the trailhead.
We will go at a moderate pace with plenty of rest breaks as needed. Bring lunch and plenty of water and sturdy hiking shoes. Trekking poles will be helpful.
Note: This is Mountain Goat territory, so please familiarize yourself with Mountain Goat safety tips prior to the hike https://www.wta.org/news/signpost/mountain-goat-basics-give-the-goat-the-trail-1
For safety we will all hike as a group so please assess before hand whether this distance/elevation gain/pace will suit you before registering
For the group's safety, every participant is asked to commit to conservative covid behavior prior to the trip
All participants will be required to have a face covering ready to pull up at the trailhead, and will be asked to be familiar with and follow the Mountaineers Covid-19 guidelines on this trip
Chelan County is in Phase 1.5 for outdoor activities so we are limited to 6 total participants.
Lodging:
Leader has a cabin in Plain, WA (15 miles from Leavenworth) that participants can request to lodge in. You may stay 3 nights (Sun, Mon, Tues). Wednesday will have an option to float the Wenatchee River in the morning before leaving. Cabin is near Lake Wenatchee, so participants may also go to the lake after the hike (s) for swimming, kayaking, relaxing. Please notify leader via a separate email at the time of registration what your lodging plans are and if you wish to stay in the cabin.
There are also several camping/hotel areas in the vicinity you are welcome to stay at as well.
