Day Hike - Indian Henry's Hunting Ground

Join this trip if you have recently completed similar mileage/gain. This trip is NOT for you if you cannot maintain an uphill pace of 1.5mph (avg) OR if you want a faster overall pace. For this trip, pace is 1.5-2mph (overall average moving pace). This trip requires an adequate number of shuttle vehicles. (The night before, I will be camping and can not take any passengers.)

Proposed route (blue) - https://caltopo.com/m/UPQE0 If there’s energy and interest, we may take Rampart Ridge (red) instead of the Wonderland trail back to Longmire; to be decided by the group.

Goals for this trip:
1. Be safe.
2. Have fun.
3. Make it to Indian Henry’s Cabin and back to our vehicles.
4. Learn something new.

Expectations for trip participants:
1. Have the physical conditioning necessary for this trip. At Kautz Creek TH, this route starts with elevation gain of ~3400’ within ~4.75 miles, reaching 5600’ elevation. From there, the route is gradual downward slope (with ups & downs) to Longmire on the Wonderland trail.
2. Practice the Leave No Trace principles.
3. Have all of your 10 essentials.
4. Be respectful of all participants.

Conditions that would cancel the trip:
1. Poor air quality
2. Mid-day air temps >80º with little wind
3. Lightning and/or heavy rain
4. Other hazards

• This hike involves a car shuttle.
• 7:30 am meet at Kautz Creek TH to arrange the car shuttle and take the necessary number of vehicles to Longmire.
• GPS location of Kautz Creek TH  is  46.736262, -121.855829.  About 10 min drive time from the Nisqually entrance to Mt Rainier NP.
• Goal → 8am boots-on-trail.
