This is an excellent opportunity to take Evening, Golden Hour, Sunset, and Twilight images of a large field of Bear Grass Lilies facing beautiful Eunice Lake with Mt. Rainier rising above. This northern face of Mt. Rainier is heavily glaciated and wild with vast virgin forests and meadows leading up to the snowline. There will also be opportunities to photograph Lupine, Paintbrush, and Tiger Lily meadows closer to the lake, the lake itself and the views from the top of Tolmie Peak. A wide angle lens in necessary to get a good near to far composition that includes the bear grass, lake, and peak. In full frame a 16-35 is ideal, and a 12-24 or 14-24 is also very useful and also provide a little wider angle of view. In an APS or 1.5 cropped sensor camera, a 11-24 lens will work good. I am available to help with technique and composition to photographers of all levels of photographic ability if you would like any guidance. We will stay until sunset and a little beyond and hike out using headlamps. This trail is a good one for using headlamps and is for the most part smooth with few obstacles. Leaders permission is required only because I want to make sure that you have adequate hiking experience, that you understand that this hike is primarily about photography, and that you are ok with staying until sunset and hiking out using headlamp. The hike itself will not be difficult for most people who have hiking experience and is considered moderate.
Meet at the Mowich Lake Parking Lot at 1:30 PM. We will start hiking no later than 2:00PM. Car pooling is encouraged and there a 24 hour Park and Ride at 23053 Renton Maple Valley Rd SE, Maple Valley, WA. 98038.
