Bonney Lake Park & Ride at 5:30am (north side)
We’ll hike at a moderate, conversational pace and take 5 min breaks every hour. There will be a longer lunch break at the summit to enjoy in-your-face views of Mount Rainier.
The Wonderland Trail meanders along the western shoreline of Mowich Lake. Large boulders dot the landscape. At 1.5 miles, we reach Ipsut Pass junction where we turn left onto the Tolmie Peak Trail and switchback six times before reaching sapphire Eunice Lake. This is a great place to take a rest break. We continue past the lake and begin the steeper climb of three switchbacks along open, subalpine slopes to the summit. The weathered yet well-cared-for tower was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933, and is one of only four remaining lookout towers in the park. On a clear day, we hope to see Mount St Helens, the Olympic Mountains, and Mount Baker. WTA Hike Description
The road to Mowich Lake is unpaved after the first 3 miles and can be rough for about 14 miles. A high-clearance vehicle is not required, but recommended and you will need to factor the slower driving time. Trailhead parking is limited, so carpooling is highly encouraged. More details will be provided to participants after registration closes.
