This hike gains 2000ft in 1.3mi with sandy, slippery tread, a little off-trail and some scrambly bits. It's a great hike for folks looking at doing bigger stuff this summer. (Load up your packs if you're training; we won't be moving fast.) It's also great for beginning scramblers just starting out with exposure and rocky parts. The hike gains 4-5 "false summits" to top out at a lovely flat knoll. From there, the trail goes down a bit, and then we'll keep going up to an unnamed peak, and possibly to the FS road. We'll come back the way we came and take the gentle Waterworks Canyon down. By then, it should be pretty hot, so we might head to the Tieton River for a splash-off before heading home.

Please bring 4L water. (There is none on the trail). Wear long pants, long sleeved shirts, and if you have bug spray that covers ticks, bring it. Also, despite the weather forecast, please bring gaiters. The rattlesnakes may also be enjoying the warm weather. We'll be careful, especially along brushy Waterworks Canyon.

Hopefully, we will see some elk or bighorn sheep and beautiful wildflowers.

7:30 TH (or message for dispersed camping options on the Tieton River Friday night).

TH directions: From Seattle, head east on I-90. Take exit 110 for 82 East / 97 South towards Yakima and continue south for 30 miles. Stay right to take exit 31A for 12 West towards Naches.
