Are you feeling strong from a great hiking season and prefer a slower pace? Then this hike is for you! Starts at at 9:30 am.
Enjoy 2.5 mi warm up on a flat trail w lakeside views, then head up a mile of steps, to an overlook. After a short break, hike up 3 miles of switchbacks through mossy forests to a lunch spot. Return via 3+ miles downhill with a break at a second overlook. We will stay together except “do your own pace” up the mile of steps and regroup at the first overlook. This hike takes just over 5 hours. Bring energizing food and over 2 liters of water is recommended. There is no water at the trailhead.
Bellingham is a dog town and this hike is dog friendly. Please judge your dog's fitness and know there was (1) creek for dog water after 6 miles. Bellingham hosts many world class athletes and you never will know who is running past you, uphill, without effort. Prepare mentally to be passed and left in the dust by amazing athletes. We will not be racing them. This hike is not for knees that hate miles of downhill. Contact the leader if you have any questions on these or other related questions.
Meet at Lake Whatcom Park, trailhead parking lot 2. Address: 220 Northshore Rd, Bellingham, WA 98226
9:30am start. Please arrive at 9:10am for orientation. Please note that the road from Bellingham to the trailhead is surprisingly long and be ready for slower speed limits. Try to give yourself buffer time to arrive. I've found it best to allow 30 minutes from Bellingham to the trailhead.
