Day Hike - Angels Rest & Devils Rest

We will hike to Angel's Rest with a spectacular view of the Columbia River Gorge on a clear day and then continue to Devils Rest Viewpoint to the Wakheena trail taking a short side trip to Fairy Falls and then loop back to Angel's Rest Trailhead

  • Moderate
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 11.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,040 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 2,435 ft
  • Pace: 2 mph

The gorge climb can sneak up on you. This hike is rated moderate to strenuous. It is 11 miles with about 3000 feet of gain but 2300 feet of gain happens in the first 3.7 miles. We will hike at a 1.5 mph pace up the initial climb and then maintain a 2mph pace, but will still take plenty of breaks and hike to the pace of the slowest member of the group.  Mountaineers expects everyone to be an active participant in route finding. We should return to the trailhead by 3pm at the latest.

There will likely be quite a bit of mud on the trail and this trail has some exposure. Consider bringing hiking poles for balance and rain pants. We may also consider carrying microspikes in case of ice. We will go rain or shine and I will only cancel if there is snow or ice forecasted.

We will carpool from the parking off exit 18 the short distance to Angels Falls Trailhead. Please only sign up if you have been vaccinated. I will be asking for proof of vaccine and we will be wearing masks with the car shuttle and if the trail gets crowded.

We will not be visiting Multnomah Falls on our hike but you should have time on your own to go before dark if you would like.

Meet at Lewis and Clark State Recreation first parking area off I-84 exit 18. Stay to the right off the exit on the south side of the highway. Parking will be on your left. We will meet there at 8:45am SHARP and carpool to the Angel's Rest Trailhead since this is a popular trail that can fill up.

Please note that this meetup location is about 2 hours from Olympia.
