This trip is classified as N3 with 13 miles of trails to ski and 1,200 ft elevation gain. It is restricted to more experienced Nordic skiers who are able to manage steeper and longer climbs and descents as well a ride up on a chairlift. The Silver Fir lift has a modern detachable chair system that goes slowly as you get on at the bottom and off at the top. So, it's much less of a challenge than the East Peak fixed chair at Summit East.

We will drive to the Silver Fir Lodge/Outpost at Summit Central and take the Silver Fir chairlift to the top. Subject to snow and weather conditions, from there we will explore some of the upper trails and then ski round the Mt. Catherine Loop back down to Summit East via Ripsaw, Olallie Meadows, Windy Pass and the Cold Creek Trail. As the Crossover trail is currently closed, we will take the shuttle van back to Silver Fir from Summit East.

The trails we will use involve some quite strenuous climbs and some steep descents. Good herringbone climbing and downhill wedge braking and turning are a must.  You must also have a good level of fitness and stamina and be willing to take a chairlift up, wearing your Nordic skis and carrying a backpack fastened to your front or on you lap.

Please contact the trip leader if you are unsure whether you meet these requirements. Either classic non-wax skis (with or without metal edges) or skate skis are best.

You may carpool from the North Bend Safeway, meeting at 8:45 am or meet us at the Silver Fir Lodge/Outpost at 9:30 am.

TRAILS PASSES: This trip will involve buying a Summit Nordic trails day pass for $26 ($22 for seniors 62 years and over and free for 70 and above). The pass includes use of the chairlift. We will each buy our pass at the Silver Fir Lodge.

Directions and other trip details will be provided by email on March 16 soon after registration closes at 5:00 pm. Please direct any questions to the trip leader, Chris Ensor, ctrails@comcast.net

Thank you!
