Late-season hill climb up Amabilis Mountain! This is a strenuous, 8 mile mostly groomed classic ski with 2,200 ft. in elevation gain located off of I-90 from the Cabin Creek Sno-Park. The ascent is switchbacks on a forest service road and on clear days the views are scenic.

I'm looking for a group that's interested in climbing Amabilis at a steady and moderate pace. This trip is a great late-season opportunity to cross train and be ready for hiking, backpacking, trail running, etc.!
We'll do an out-and-back warmup ski on The Road (if conditions allow) before starting our climb. We'll stop periodically for snacks, water, and layer adjustments, but not specifically to rest. This climb will require a very good level of fitness and you must be comfortable classic skiing both uphill and downhill. We'll stay together as a group so it's important that everyone is able to maintain a similar pace of approximately 2 mph on the way up. Grooming to the Y (about the halfway point) has been consistent this year. If conditions are good, we'll continue to the summit, which could include skiing on a trail that hasn't received recent grooming. Pack a trailside lunch (optional) to eat at the summit before we make a fast and fun downhill return.
To request leader permission, please reach out by email (hinzac@gmail.com) and briefly describe your overall classic XC experience and fitness readiness for a hill climb.
The group should meet at the Cabin Creek Sno-Park (Exit 63 off of I-90 and park on the south side of I-90) with gear on and ready to ski at 9:00 AM.
Carpooling is encouraged and we can coordinate by email. But stopping at a carpool meeting point before heading to Cabin Creek Sno-Park is not required.
