Whatcom Pass / Tapto Lakes. Nestled between Redface Mountain, Whatcom Peak and Mount Challenger in the North Cascades, Tapto Lakes are perched several hundred feet above Whatcom Pass and offer incredible intimate views of the massive Challenger Glacier, and many of the rugged North Cascades Peaks. The remote location of these pristine alpine lakes offers peaceful solitude and a unique alpine experience. To cross the ragging Chilliwack River, the route requires the use of a hand-powered cable car stung hung above the river to make the crossing; truly a unique experience! 4 days, 3 nights. Very strenuous - round trip distance 36 miles, elevation gain in: 5200 ft, elevation gain out: 2600 ft. Maps: Mount Shuksan (GT#14) and Mount Challenger (GT#15).
