Backpack - Wallace & Jay Lakes

Enjoy an early season backpacking trip to Jay Lake at Wallace Falls State Park. Low elevation camp with great solitude.

  • Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 12.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,700 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 1,900 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 - 2.0 mph

The place is reserved and allows for only one party, so solitude is almost guaranteed.

There's a compostable toilet, and it is sheltered; No cat-holing in the rain!

If conditions allow, we may walk/wade on the creek feeding the north of Wallace Lake to reach an open beach often called Pebble Beach.

There's a $10 overnight parking fee. We will use park's envelopes to pay the fee and display the receipts on the cars.

Meeting place is the trailhead at Wallace Falls State Park parking lot. That is the start of the Woody Trail. 47.866973, -121.678147

We will depart in the morning, time TBD depending on usual parking patterns. This is a very popular trail/parking lot and can fill up quickly. I will call the park closer to the trip date to get an estimate of a good time to depart.
