This is a strenuous activity planned for Mountaineers youth and family enrolled with the Explorers, Jr. MAC and MAC courses. Carrying overnight packs, the mileage and elevation gain will be a reasonable challenge for Explorers who completed the early summer trips in the Enchanted and Hoh River Valleys; Jr. MAC and MAC backpackers will find this challenging but accessible. Most of the elevation will come in the first two miles, then we will follow the PCT until Trap Pass. A relatively flat social trail continues to Thunder Mountain Lakes, which will include skirting or scrambling over snow fields.
Meet at the Tunnel Creek Trailhead at 9:00 AM Friday morning to be on the trail by 9:30. Parking is limited at the trailhead. Carpooling is encouraged.
