This will be a leisurely backpacking trip to a local staple. The Snow Lake Trail is one of the most popular trails in the state, hopefully we will be able to beat the crowds by setting up camp at the further campsite on a Monday. We will move at a leisurely pace of 2mph. The primary goals of this trip are to have a good time, enjoy each other's company, and admire some alpine lakes.
The trail to camp is relatively short (~5 mile) with moderate elevation gain (~2,000 ft, varies by source), so we should arrive to camp around noon. There are 2 possible campsites on this trail- we will plan to camp at Gem Lake, with Snow Lake area as the backup. Please note that Gem Lake is another ~1.5miles and ~500 feet beyond Snow Lake- there will be both ascent and descent to get to camp, as well as a log bridge and rock field crossings. After setting up camp, there will be the option to hike to Wildcat Lakes (another 6 miles & 1000-1300ft RT.)
Please anticipate heavy bug activity on this trip. Bug spray and netting will be essential.
This is a mentored lead for Shoshana Bass, supervised by Caroly C.
