Backpack - Kendall Peak Lakes

Snowshoe up the road to the first, lowest of the Kendall Peaks Lakes and camp for the night. Explore up the the next lake and to the viewpoint south of our camp. Great sunset spot.

  • Pace: 1 mph

This is a popular snowshoe, but we should have the place to ourselves by the mid-afternoon. There are many attractive places to camp.

The route is up a forest road, so the grade is reasonable. Depending on the snow, there may be a steep slope to cross where snow piles on the road. Other than that, there is no avalanche terrain along the route.

We'll camp at the lowest lake and likely take a side trip to the middle lake and to the overlook in the evening.

When requesting permission to register, please tell me about your snowshoe and winter camping experience and gear (shelter, sleep system, cooking system, and clothing) you’ll bring in order to stay safe.

We’ll meet at the first area of Gold Creek Sno-Park (non-groomed permit required). This Sno-Park is located next to and north of the freeway. Exit I-90 at Exit 54 to frontage road and turn under the freeway. Park as soon as you can. Meeting time to be determined, but plan on early to beat the crowds.
