  • Elevation Gain: 200 ft

Looking for the perfect first backpacking trip with young kids? Join me for a fun and easy adventure to Hyas Lake, a beautiful lake nestled on the eastern slopes of the Cascades. This flat, 2-mile trail is ideal for little hikers, with plenty of fun features along the way.

Trip Details:

🚗 Road Conditions: The road to the trailhead is rough, with potholes and a creek crossing. While some cars make it, SUVs or vehicles with clearance (like Subarus) are recommended.

🌲 The Hike: A short, flat trail with small stream crossings—a fun challenge for young adventurers! Along the way, we’ll pass through a lovely forest with seasonal berries (thimbleberries, salmonberries, and huckleberries) for a tasty trail-side treat.

🏕️ The Campsite: Large campsites are available along the lakeshore, making for a comfortable family-friendly base. The relatively warm water invites kids to splash and play, making it a perfect summer destination.

This relaxed backpacking trip is a great way to introduce kids to the outdoors, with an easy hike, fun water play, and plenty of nature to explore. Come enjoy a peaceful night by the lake and make lasting family memories!

Meeting Place and Time details will be provided to participants over email.
