Alpine Scramble - Norse Peak

Spring snow scramble to a Rainier 100 peak that offers a fun ridge run and beautiful views on a clear day!

  • Strenuous 3, Technical 2, Snow Scramble
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 8.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,900 ft
  • Pace: 1,000-1,200'/hr
  • Norse Peak Trailhead at 8:30AM (46.96420, -121.48260).
  • Northwest Forest Pass is required for all vehicles.
  • Participants may choose to arrange carpools at their own discretion.
  • This will be a moderate paced scramble with a target of 1,000 - 1,200' of elevation gain per hour.  We will plan to take  ~5 minute breaks once per hour.

  • We will travel together and work as a team to break trail (as needed), make navigation decisions, and assess avalanche hazards along the route.

  • Our intended route will roughly follow the Norse Peak summer trail.  From the TH we will climb up initial switchbacks to above tree line.  We will then traverse a series of ridges to the Norse Peak summit.  If conditions are good, we will spend ~30 minutes at the summit enjoying the views and taking pictures.

  • As Assistant Leader, Sarah McClellan is organizing this scramble.  Please direct any questions to Sarah (mcclellan.sarah@gmail.com).

  • Further details to be sent to participants in the pre-trip email ~3 days prior to the trip.
