2-day trip will go 8/7-8/9. Please plan to sleep at the TH the night before the trip to begin acclimatization.
Day 1 (8/8)- We'll take the morning and part of the afternoon to do 4,000ft to Lunch Counter at 9400ft (we usually camp at the base of the summit route). Once we set up camp, we'll get water from the waterfall on the east side of Lunch Counter and enjoy our evening. Nothing beats the sunset up there on a beautiful night!
Day 2 (8/9) - Alpine start 4am to summit. We'll take 3-4hrs to summit. Hopefully the glissade chute will be soft enough by noon for a smooth ride down. Break camp, maybe get to glissade a little below Lunch Counter and hoof out. Please do not make plans for the evening, just in case something unexpected occurs.
Group gear sheet to go out 1 week before trip.
$20.00 climbing permit
LEADER PERMISSION QUESTION: When you ask the leader for permission, please outline your fitness level and answer the following: what climb/scramble/hike have you done in the last two months that exceeded 8 hrs, 8 miles, or 4000 feet gain in a single day. If you have any questions, please reach out.
PACING: Be prepared and fit for strenuous 2 day scramble! We won't go crazy fast, but we will go at a moderate but steady pace with short breaks as needed. Pacing: all day, moderate pace (averaging 1000 ft per hour).
Things that could be good indicators of fitness, all with climbing packs (30 lbs), done in a single day, car to car:
- Mailbox
- Mount Teneriffe
- Mt St Helens
- Paradise to Camp Muir
- Double Si
Greenlake park and Ride 8/7 time TBD
Cold Springs campground trailhead 10pm evening before climb 8/7.
Carpooling encouraged, will set up carpool before trip.
Camping at TH recommended, as it's at 5400ft and an overnight will help with acclimatization.
