Alpine Scramble - Kendall Peak

Trip

Alpine Scramble - Kendall Peak

The far better NORTH RIDGE route up over North Kendall to the main summit. This is not the standard route; it's so much better!

  • Strenuous 3, Technical 4, Rock Scramble
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 10.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,800 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 5,784 ft
  • Pace: 2.5 mph

This is the much better and sportier scramble route up Kendall, as described in the Smoot book.

Instead of hiking up the typical climbers path up Kendall, we will instead stay on the PCT until it gains the ridge on the north side of Kendall, then we will ascend southward up the North Ridge up to the North Peak. From there, we will have a pretty craggy and sporty ridge scramble to get to the main summit, but any of the most extreme stuff can be avoided by skirting just below the ridge. So we have the option to make this a T5 scramble, or a T3 scramble. We will descend the standard bootpath back to PCT. Fun route and great for rock scramble credit!

Even on the PCT, I don't hike super fast so expect a moderate and social pace.

Beer and grub at Dru Bru afterwards!

8:30AM,  PCT (North)/Commonwealth Basin TH at Snoqualmie Pass - NW Forest Pass required.
