Trip Report

Day Hike - Mount Walker

A great workout just in time before the storm!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The gate is closed, but enough room to park for about a dozen cars. Muddy in the parking area. The trail is in great shape with three blowdowns that are very easy to pass. Only a light sprinkling of snow on the upper trail, no traction devices were needed. The restrooms near the summit are locked.

We started our first round a few minutes past 9:30 and reached the summit in an hour and thirteen minutes. Got a glimpse of the Olympics with clouds coming in, but didn't stay long because of the cold. Back to the trailhead in less than an hour, had lunch, and headed back up. Reached the summit again in one hour and twenty minutes, back to the cars in slightly over an hour. Total moving time was 4 hours/17 minutes with 8 miles rt/4,000' gain. Met lots of hikers and friendly pups in our travels to and fro!

Clouds rolled in along with a few snow speckles during our second ascent, but overall it was a nice day for this kind of trek. We were a strong group and enjoyed each other's company!
