Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Course - Seattle - 2022

First Aid Course

Wilderness First Aid (WFA) - InPerson

Basic wilderness medicine training course that focuses on prevention, assessment, and treatment for an ill or injured person in a remote environment where definitive care is not readily available.

Wilderness First Aid is taught by an instructional vendor at the Mountaineers’ Program Center in Magnuson Park on various weekends throughout the year. The course includes an independent WFA certification. Your course fee covers the cost of this instruction. See session listings for more information.

While COVID-19 remains at pandemic levels, we will not hold the additional scenario sessions as part of the course.

Renewals

Looking for renewal options? Wilderness First Aid is renewed by re-taking the full course. A variety of options are available. If you prefer in-person training, register for this course or another in-person course. Some providers are also offering online or remote/virtual renewals in some cases. If you take a WFA course outside the Mountaineers organization, follow information below for equivalency.

Equivalency notes

Some requirements may be waived or equivalency granted to individuals who have current backcountry medical certifications or extensive experience in providing medical care in remote or austere environments. Contact the course leader if you meet these requirements. You will have to provide proof of your certification and/or experience and may still be required to complete the Scenarios portion of the class to receive credit. Urban and front-country medical training alone is not sufficient to meet this requirement, even with advanced education and experience. A WFA course completed through another provider will also fulfill all or part of the requirements.

If Scenario sessions are required for the Mountaineers course, equivalency candidates may also be required to complete a Scenario session. See Equivalency Information or contact course leader for more information.
