You're Invited to join our Strategic Plan Focus Sessions
By Mike Warren

Our five-year strategic Plan, Vision 2022, provided an important foundation for us as leaders in innovative outdoor education striving to engage future generations in advocacy, adventure, education, volunteerism, and community. Vision 2022 also put a stake in the ground for our goal of becoming a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization where all people can feel belonging.

As this five-year plan comes to a close, our staff, board, and volunteer leadership have been working on an updated 10-year strategic plan to serve as our guiding light in the years ahead. Before we finalize the priorities and goals of the plan, we know how critical it is to integrate feedback directly from you, our members, volunteers, donors, and community partners.

We want to hear which areas of the plan you are most excited about and what you would consider supporting. The best way to share your feedback will be to  join us at one of our upcoming community focus sessionsYour involvement will be a key success factor in our ability to guide an effective implementation plan.

Kicking off after our Annual Meeting on September 13, these focus sessions will be an opportunity to learn more about The Mountaineers Strategic Plan and to go deeper on the areas that interest you most. During these sessions we will seek feedback on the goals, ask what most excites you about the plan, and invite discussion on what you think it will take to translate each goal into action and make a meaningful difference for our outdoor community.

Strategic Priorities & Goals

With Vision 2022, we developed a plan through high engagement from our community. We hope to bring in your rigorous feedback and input once again for our next three strategic priorities.

1. Lead Innovation in Outdoor Education

Anyone inspired to learn outdoor skills has that opportunity with The Mountaineers. In response to unprecedented interest from the greater community to learn outdoor skills, we will invest in the three most critical resources required to meet this need: volunteers, space, and expert resources.

2. ENGAGE A VIBRANT COMMUNITY OF OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS

Every individual can find inspiration and belonging in the outdoors  through Mountaineers community, programs, and books. As an organization reliant on a community of outdoor enthusiasts and philanthropists, we must grow the number of people who feel connected through our classes, programs, books, and other resources. By investing in opportunities that help everyone feel belonging, we will ensure the future of our organization and our planet.

ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF THE NATURAL WORLD

Our community makes a meaningful impact in protecting our planet and the outdoor experience. The Mountaineers has always been a fierce defender of the natural world. In response to intensifying climate change and increasing recreational use of public lands, we must strengthen our capacity to help protect the outdoors for future generations.
