This #GivingTuesday, Give Back by Increasing Access to the Outdoors

After you #OptOutside this Black Friday, consider giving in support of outdoor access. On Tuesday, December 3, The Mountaineers will participate in #GivingTuesday and once again all donations received on this day will directly support Mountaineers scholarships

We rely on the generosity of our volunteer community to provide the courses and programs that make a difference in so many lives. This year, we have set a goal to raise $25,000 by December 31 to provide scholarships to 75 students and ensure that life-changing Mountaineers opportunities are available to all.

If you are interested in setting up your own social media fundraiser and serving as a Mountaineers Ambassador, please reach out to Bri Vanderlinden by November 25.

SCHOLARSHIPS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Just over three years ago, Charlotte Muzzi was new to Tacoma and found it difficult to connect with others in the area until she joined The Mountaineers last fall. The cost of taking a course was out of reach, but with a scholarship, Charlotte was able to enroll in our sport lead climbing course. Fast forward to today, and she’s flourishing in her new outdoor community and is dreaming with other Mountaineers about embarking on an all-women expedition in the next three years.

As an educator, I am continually impressed by Mountaineers volunteers - how much they know, how well they teach, and how committed they are to the organization. I am also very appreciative of the scholarship that has made enrollment possible for somebody in my income bracket. I feel much more a part of the Washington outdoor community and I’m happy to know folks who I can recreate with. I’m grateful for the skills to do so in a way that is safe, responsible, and respectful of outdoor spaces.”

-Charlotte Muzzi, 1-year member

Scholarships serve our entire community by increasing access to outdoor recreation, education, and conservation for youth and adults, no matter their ability to pay. These programs cultivate deep connections with our wild places and create future volunteers, community leaders, and stewards of our public lands.
