Trip

Sea Kayak - Shi Shi Beach

We will explore and enjoy Anderson Point - extending our trip to Point of Arches at the south end of Shi Shi Beach if conditions are calm and group energy is high.

  • Sea Kayak IV, Sea Kayak V
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 20.0 nm
  • Maximum Wind: 20 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 4 ft
  • Maximum Currents: 2 kts
  • Pace: 3kt

Meet at Alan's camp spot 8am sharp to confirm day's plan. Be ready to launch by 9am. Return same loc as launch, late afternoon.

Alan's camp spot: I have a Blue Subaru Outback with Gray Thule Cargo Box atop. It will most likely be parked in middle of main Hobucks Camping Resort field near a campfire spot.

Backup plan: if conditions constrain us, we'll pursue something completely different than going beyond Tatoosh - targeting Hobucks, Neah or Shi Shi area.

i.e. Stay ready to transport your kayak via car shortly after our 8am morning check-in.

Exploratory Objective: explore south of Hobucks around rock outcroppings and islets. Participants should have experience in Incident Management and Surf.

This day is intended to bring people eager and ready to explore dynamic water on the open coast, even if they have not experienced it a great deal.

Surf Conditions constraint: if swell is consistently 4' or above, we'll reconsider overall plan. The goal for this outing is not to spend all day in the surf (thus the SK IV and V rating), but to get beyond it. We still have to go through it for launch/landings though.

Bring endurance and flexibility.

We'll stop at least once for bio break and refueling, perhaps a 2nd time if needed.
