Trip Report

Intermediate Snowshoe - Skyline Ridge

Surprisingly fun exploration of the ridge

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Parking in lot D was fine at 7:45am.

Road to the lake turn-off and saddle was perfect for snowshoeing - not too slippery - and the snow was excellent everywhere else, perfect for breaking trail.

Good weather, perfect fresh snow and unexpected sunshine made this outing even more enjoyable than the standard Skyline Lake jaunt.

We made this a two-summit day by taking the straight uphill option at the lake turn-off, enjoying northerly views from the saddle, then following a ski track to run the ridge to Skyline Ridge East Peak. Descent was a bit steep from the peak, so we retraced our steps until the grade eased up, then we were able to traverse to the next saddle. The Middle Peak was now within reach, with views of Glacier Peak and Sloan Peak.

We continued on to the rock garden, where we enjoyed lunch in the sunshine until a group of skiers decided to sit down for lunch right in front of us (despite plenty of other beautiful, sunny options). The lake was surprisingly quiet on this beautiful Saturday:
